Rain restricts payment routes by country and industry as part of its compliance program. If a restriction applies, Rain rejects the payment route creation request. These restrictions are one part of Rain’s Payments compliance checks, which also verify the account owner and screen transactions.
These restrictions apply to payment routes: opening a virtual account or making a cross-border payout. For merchant-category restrictions on card spending, see Blocked MCCs and Merchants in the Cards tab.

Restricted countries differ by currency program. Select the tab for your currency to see the countries that apply.
Rain partners cannot offer virtual accounts to international entities whose principal place of business, or any authorized user, is located in the following countries:

Restricted industries

For business accounts, you cannot create payment routes for entities engaged in any of the following business types, which are prohibited under Rain’s Money Movement Standards:
  • Abortion-related
  • Adult content/services & classifieds
  • ATM operators
  • Bankruptcy services
  • Coin / stamp / precious metals / gemstones
  • Counterfeit materials
  • Counterfeit goods/IP infringement (including hacker groups or theft)
  • Court ordered payments
  • Credit repair
  • Cyberlocking services
  • Darknet markets
  • Debt-related services
  • Direct marketing
  • Downloading / streaming / distributing illegal or protected digital content
  • Drug paraphernalia
  • Drugs / pharmaceuticals / controlled substances and related paraphernalia
  • Endangered / protected animals and wildlife
  • Escort / mail-order brides
  • Espionage equipment and signal jammers / blockers
  • Fireworks/explosives
  • Foreign governments and state-owned enterprises
  • Gambling/Betting (unlicensed)
  • Hate groups or material promoting violence/hatred
  • Human remains / body parts
  • Human trafficking
  • Illegal activities
  • Illegal gambling
  • Illegal/controlled substance vendors
  • Intellectual property
  • Materials / activities that promote intolerance, violence, or hate

  • Offshore banks and shell companies with no physical presence or purpose

  • Prior and current involvement with Bearer Shares
  • Pseudo-pharmaceuticals
  • Ransomware
  • SARMS/Peptides
  • Shell banks and financial institutions
  • Terrorism support
  • Unlicensed MSBs
  • Unlicensed providers of licensed activities, including illegal crypto sales
  • Weapons/arms dealers
  • Weapons vendors/manufacturers
  • Other
    • Layaway systems and annuities
    • Miracle cures, unsubstantiated remedies, or other items marketed as quick health fixes, designer supplements, nutraceuticals, muscle mass proteins, weight gain or loss supplements
    • Sale of email or direct marketing lists enabling unsolicited contacts, such as from telemarketing merchants (inbound or outbound)
    • Sale of manuals, how-to guides, or equipment to disable, “hack”, or modify access controls on software, servers, phones, or websites, including but not limited to mod-chips, drive chips, or access cards
    • Items or sites that encourage or promote hate, violence, or racial intolerance
    • Psychic services
