Erroneous Transfers Policy

How Rain defines and handles erroneous transfers, and what you need to do to prevent, report, and recover them if deemed possible.

A transfer is an “Erroneous Transfer” if it is initiated using: (a) an incorrect blockchain network or destination address; (b) an incorrect contract address or any transfer identifier; or (c) a blockchain or token that Rain has not expressly designated as supported for the applicable service or partner program.

Rain has no obligation to monitor, detect, reverse, retrieve, credit, replace, or reimburse any Erroneous Transfer. The partner is responsible for ensuring that its personnel, end users, and any party initiating a transfer through or in connection with the services use the correct transfer instructions and only Supported Assets, and the partner will communicate these limitations clearly to its end users. “Supported Assets” means the blockchain networks and tokens that Rain identifies in its applicable documentation (available here) in addition to other blockchain networks and tokens that may be supported under the relevant partner’s agreement with Rain.

Rain may, in its sole discretion, assess whether recovery of an Erroneous Transfer is technically feasible. Any assessment or recovery effort is voluntary, may be discontinued at any time, and does not create a duty, representation, or precedent for Rain to perform similar efforts in the future. Rain does not guarantee that any Erroneous Transfer can be recovered, in whole or in part, or within any particular timeframe.

Where Rain elects to attempt recovery and any amount is recovered, Rain may return only the amount actually recovered, less any applicable network, third-party, administrative, investigation, or recovery fees, to the extent permitted by applicable law and the agreement between Rain and the partner. Rain may require reasonable information, documentation, and cooperation from the partner before taking any action.

The partner must report an Erroneous Transfer to Rain promptly after discovery and provide the transaction hash, relevant network, token, destination address, amount, date and time, and any other reasonably requested information. This policy does not limit Rain’s responsibility to the extent an Erroneous Transfer results directly from materially incorrect transfer instructions supplied by Rain or a material malfunction of the Rain services, in each case subject to the limitations, exclusions, claims procedures, and other terms of the applicable agreement between Rain and the partner.
